This week in science class we learned about protein synthesis. Also we learned about how a cell can be compared to many different things.

This week in science class we leaned about protein synthesis. We learned that there are two steps to protein synthesis. They are transcription and translation. Transcription is when MRNA copies DNA. MRNA does this by separating the DNA strand. Then MRNA adds matching base pairs to the DNA strand. Once the MRNA is done adding the base pairs it separates from the DNA strand and goes to the ribosome. The next step of protein synthesis is translation. The first step of translation is when the ribosome uses the MRNA that copied the DNA as instructions to create a protein. Then the ribosome tells the TRNA to add amino acids to the MRNA. This creates a protein.

Also we learned how a cell can be compared to many different things. For example a plant cell can be compared to a city. The mitochondria that create energy for the cell can be compared to a power plant in a city. Also the chloroplast in a plant cell which makes food fir the cell can be compared o a farm. The vacuoles that store water and nutrients can be compared to a food store. Another comparison is that the cell membrane which lets things in and out of the cell is like the borders of a city.
